On 19 June 2026, Mr. Kasem Sailuenam, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the Royal Thai Embassy in Lima, presided over the opening ceremony of the Basic Thai Language and Culture Course conducted online, together with Associate Professor Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University.

On this occasion, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. expressed profound condolences on the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita, and paid tribute to Her Royal Highness’s dedication and contributions to the nation and the well-being of the Thai people.

He also expressed appreciation to the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, and the Center for Thai as a Foreign Language for their continued collaboration in organizing the program for the fifth consecutive year. In addition, he congratulated the participants selected to join the course and emphasized that the program aims not only to teach the Thai language but also to promote knowledge and understanding of Thailand in its various dimensions. Such efforts contribute to strengthening mutual understanding and fostering people-to-people relations between Thailand and countries in Latin America.

The 2026 edition of the course is being held from 19 June to 30 July 2026. It is designed to enhance participants’ basic Thai communication skills for everyday use while introducing various aspects of Thailand, including Thai cuisine, the entertainment industry, music, television series, and Thai arts and culture. A total of 35 participants from Peru, Ecuador, and Venezuela have enrolled in the program.
