On 11 September 2026, H.E. Ms. Ek-on Khunacharoen, Ambassador of Thailand to Peru, presided over the opening ceremony of the Thai Film Festival in Lima 2026 and attended the screening of the opening film "The Cursed Mask" (Ta Khon) at the Movie Time Premium cinema in San Isidro, Lima. The event was attended by over 100 participants, including representatives from the Peruvian government agencies, the business sector, and organizations related to the film and cultural industries as well as influencers and Thai film enthusiasts.

 

On this occasion, the Ambassador welcomed the attendees and emphasized the role of film as a medium for connecting people and culture and the importance of promoting Thailand’s creative industries. The Film Festival does not only reflect the creativity and potential of the Thai people but also introduces Thailand to global audiences through diverse stories, ways of life, and cultural elements. One of the films screened at this festival is “Heals” which tells the story of the Thai drag artist, Pangina Heals. The film chronicles her life journey and challenges, highlighting the importance of having the courage to be oneself and embracing diversity. On this occasion, the Ambassador also mentioned Bangkok’s bid to host WorldPride 2030, as an opportunity to showcase the diversity and openness of Thai society.

 

Before the film screening, attendees also participated in a reception and exchanged views on Thai cinema.

 

The Thai Film Festival in Lima 2026 took place from 11 - 13 September 2026 showcasing three Thai films namely (1) The Cursed Mask (Ta Khon), (2) Heals, and (3) Gohan” and was attended by more than 250 people. The event was part of the broader "Thai Film Festival in Latin America 2026" held across various countries in the region to share Thai stories, creativity, and charm with local audiences through cinema.
