Spanning riverfront warehouses and historic book streets, Bangkok Design Week 2026 is turning the whole city into a living, breathing design lab. Running from January 29th to February 8th, the ninth edition of the festival — organized by the Creative Economy Agency (CEA) — leans into its bold theme, “DESIGN S/O/S,” positioning creativity as a practical tool for urban survival, business growth, and cultural resilience.

With more than 350 programs spread across districts like Charoenkrung, Phra Nakhon, Pak Khlong Talat, and Bang Lamphu-Khao San, the festival is built around three pillars: “Creative Talent,” “Design Business,” and “The District.”

Here are just a few of the standout highlights shaping Bangkok’s most design-forward festival.

Creative Talent: Where Craft Meets the Future

Within “Creative Talent,” these BKKDW2026 activities showcase creative potential and support idea development.

AUGMENTED CRAFT (Weave, Sight, Strand)

At the Grand Postal Building on Charoenkrung Road, steam-bent rattan structures rise into a futuristic spectacle. Developed by KMUTT’s School of Architecture and Design with designer Igor Pantic, the installation pairs master craftsmanship with holographic guides that enable millimeter-precision weaving, glimpsing into how traditional craft could reshape modern construction.

AQUA.NEST

Flood resilience gets a design-forward makeover at TCDC Bangkok. This landscape architecture project uses an AI-assisted water retention model to show how beauty and function can coexist, turning a pressing urban challenge into a visually striking, practical solution.

A Feast for the Ethereal

Sumphat Gallery’s immersive exhibition at Atelier 9 explores “survival in times of hardship” through a distinctly Thai lens, blending innovation and spiritual belief. Themes like heartbreak, financial strain, and even lost lottery tickets become poetic reflections of cultural resilience.

Design Business: From Studio to Global Stage

The BKKDW2026 events under “Design Business” aim to open pathways to business connections and international collaboration.

Thailand Creative House

The Grand Postal Building becomes a global runway as over 50 Thai creatives and lifestyle brands showcase market-ready products. Business matching sessions and behind-the-scenes studio tours connect local designers directly with international buyers and partners.

LAHI (Heritage): The Philippine Fashion Exhibition

Held at TCDC Bangkok, this cross-border showcase turns fabric and fashion into cultural ambassadors. A collaboration between the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry, the Philippine Embassy, and CEA, it blends creative inspiration with real-world business networking.

Projecting Future Heritage: A Hong Kong Archive

Fresh from the Venice Biennale, this exhibition at Prince Sommot Amornphan’s Palace explores post-war Hong Kong architecture through the lens of “Future Heritage,” linking the water-city narratives of Venice, Hong Kong, and Bangkok with rare archival films and materials.

The District: Design as Urban Revival

Festival participants under “The District” hope to revitalize urban districts and reinvigorate their economic life.

Bloom Connect

Near the Memorial Bridge, projection mapping by emerging Silpakorn University designers transforms a once-quiet riverside into a vibrant nighttime destination, boosting walkability, safety, and tourism potential.

Bangkok Book District 2026

In Phra Nakhon, a historic printing route becomes a cultural journey. Writers, editors, and readers converge to reimagine the future of Thai publishing, turning reading into a driver of urban vitality.

YOU ARE THE FLOWER (MARKET)

At Pak Khlong Talat’s Yodpiman Flower Market, a multi-sensory exhibition engages all five senses, using flowers as a lens to explore local livelihoods and personal identity.

At its purest and most distilled, Bangkok Design Week 2026 is a citywide experiment in how creativity can power policy, business, and everyday life. For visitors, it’s a chance to explore Bangkok as a City of Opportunity in the making.
