During 29-30 August 2021, His Excellency Mr. Sorayut Chasombat, Ambassador of Thailand to Lima and officials of the Royal Thai Embassy visited Forestal Otorongo (Jaguar Forest) in Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios Province, Peru, which is a forestry concession area of Forestry Company Otorongo with forestry industry alongside implementing conservation of the forest and the ecosystem, on the invitation of Mr. Erik Fischer, President of Asociación de Exportadores - ADEX (Peruvian Exports Association). The delegation had the opportunity to explore responsible forest management systems for the sustainability of the entire forest industry supply chain ranging from tree registration, tree cutting, log transport, monitoring, evaluation and research, as well as soil and water maintenance, protecting flora and fauna in the area as well as the restoration of forests and the environment in the concession area.

During this study visit, the delegation discussed and exchanged knowledge on forest conservation and creating added value for sustainable economic activities. He saw the potential to promote trade and investment in the forest industry between the Thai-Peruvian private sector as well as opportunities to promote sustainable economic and technical cooperation in the forest industry between Thailand and Peru. Peru is one of the top emerging markets in Latin America with many natural resources, with the second largest forest area in Latin America, and is implementing policies that focus on upgrading the economy to higher value in various sectors and promoting a strong circular economy, just as Thailand is promoting a Bio-Circular-Green economic model, the country’s national agenda.
