On 3 September 2021, H.E. Mr. Sorayut Chasombat, Ambassador of Thailand, and officers of the Royal Thai Embassy in Lima visited Chancay Port project located 56km north of Lima. The delegation met with representatives of COSCO SHIPPING Ports in Peru and visited the construction sites of the port.

The 100 percent private investment project is led by Chinese company COSCO SHIPPING Ports and by Peruvian mining company Volcan Compañía Minera. The terminal, which will be the first one controlled by COSCO in South America in the region, is designed to receive general cargo and containerized cargo, with capacity to receive triple-E container vessels directly from Asia, and will serve as an important technological, logistical and industrial gateway between Peru and Thailand, as well as Latin America and Southeast Asia regions. The terminal is estimated to be operative in 2024.
