On 26 April 2022, ACL visited La Chutana Eco-industrial park, which is part of a project implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and financed by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) of the Government of Switzerland, with the Ministry of Production of Peru as the national focal point. This project is called the Global Eco Industrial Parks (GEIPP), with the purpose for promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development in developing and transitional economies. In the Latin America region, only Peru and Colombia are part of this initiative.

The delegation visited the different areas of La Chutana, one of the three pilot eco-industrial parks located in the south of Lima. It is a privately-owned industrial park with 525 hectares. Currently, there are nine companies installed and operating in the park, with two international companies. The park has several sustainability initiatives, including use of renewable energy such as thermal and solar power, a water treatment plant, and sustainable agricultural plots. The visit was a success in enabling ACL to learn more about sustainability initiatives in Peru’s industrial sector, which ASEAN and Peru could further collaborate on as sustainability is an important theme recognized by the UN and its subsidiary bodies as well as the key element put forward for APEC’s consideration under Thailand’s ACL Chairmanship.
